Buying gold, not only selling it

The case is not only for selling into. There is usually gold available for purchase as well — coins, bars and estate pieces that reached this counter through families rather than a distributor.

  • Gold coins and bullion at a margin quoted against the spot showing on the screen behind us.
  • Estate pieces at estate prices — no retail markup layered on top of the metal.
  • Documentation with everything, plus original certificates where the piece still has them.
  • Sell it back to us later and the evaluation costs nothing, same as the first time.

Call to hear what is in the case

How it works

Twenty minutes, start to finish

01

Walk in, or call first

Atlantic Avenue traffic being what it is, most people call ahead. Either works. Nothing needs an appointment.

02

It goes on the counter

Gold gets tested and weighed, stones go under the loupe, coins get sorted by date and mint mark. You stand on the other side of the same counter the whole time.

03

You hear the arithmetic

Karat, weight, spot, spread — or grade, carat, market. Whichever applies, the number is built in front of you rather than announced at the end.

04

Take it or leave it

No countdown, no manager brought over to save the deal. People walk out to think about it and come back a week later all the time.

05

Payout on the spot

Cash or a check the moment you agree. Wire for the larger ones. Paperwork comes with it either way.

Our guarantee

Four rules behind the counter

Transparency in pricing

The scale reads toward you. So does the tester. Ask what a number means at any point and the evaluation stops until you have the answer.

No hidden costs

Nothing is charged for looking, nothing is held back as commission, and the figure quoted is the figure paid.

Knowledgeable staff

Licensed appraisers who can tell you why a 1908 half eagle is not the same coin as the one beside it, and what that does to the price.

Peace of mind

What crosses this counter stays between the two sides of it. Every transaction leaves with documentation you can hand to an accountant or an executor.

Who drives here, and where we drive

People come in from Boca and Boynton on a Saturday morning; for a full household we drive out instead, as far north as West Palm and as far south as Miami. Neither direction costs anything.

Questions

Questions we hear across the counter

I have a ring but no paperwork. Does that kill the price?

No. Most estate jewelry in this county predates certification entirely, and grading it is what we do anyway. A GIA report saves us fifteen minutes and sometimes improves the offer, but its absence is not a discount.

The stamp on my chain has worn off. How do you know what it is?

Acid test, or an electronic tester on the pieces where that reads cleanly. Both take under a minute. Ten, fourteen and eighteen karat get separated properly — the shortcut of paying everything at ten karat is exactly what we do not do.

My father left three albums of coins. Do you actually go through them?

Date by date and mint mark by mint mark. It takes an hour or two for a serious album and it is the whole difference between a fair number and a weight-based one. A single 1916-D dime can carry an otherwise ordinary collection.

Should I polish the silver first?

Please do not. Polishing removes metal and takes the patina off, and on a Georg Jensen or a Tiffany piece that costs real money. Bring it tarnished — we would rather see it that way.

What is your spread when I buy gold from you rather than sell?

Quoted before you decide, along with the spot we are working from at that hour. It moves with the coin and with how much of it is on the shelf, and there is no version of this where you find out the margin afterwards.

Can I sell four plates out of a service and keep the rest?

You can, though it is usually the wrong move. A complete service is worth considerably more than the sum of its plates, and breaking one up tends to strand the remainder. We will tell you what each option pays.

What do I need to bring?

Photo ID, and the items. Florida requires the ID for precious metal transactions. Boxes, papers and receipts help where they exist, but nothing is turned away for missing them.

Describe what you are bringing

A ring can often be given a range over the phone. Anything with stones, dates or a maker's mark needs eyes on it — bring it in, or send photographs and we will tell you whether it is worth the drive.

Answered the same day we get it, usually within the hour during opening times.
